I didn’t even know there was a different term for it. It just means “being in a bad mood” and is a form of mild depression (ie just a step below clinical depression).

It is the same type of illness and has the exact same symptoms as depression. I guess the only real difference is that if you constantly find yourself in a bad mood, you (or your friends) could help the situation by changing lifestyle, starting a hobby or just eating chocolate, whereas depression must be treated by a professional.

You might do better if you Google this. The symptoms are all listed in the DSM-IV and there’s as many different ways to deal with it as people who have it.

Dysthymia is a disorder on the depression spectrum so the symptoms you would expect to see are simmilar to those of depression such as low or irritable mood, lack of interest in things, loss of energy etc. The difference between dysthymia and depression is that the symptoms are less intense. For a diagnosis of dysthymia the symptoms must result in clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, academic

Loser hit it. Do a little research; no two people will respond to every form of treatment. On my part, it made me lethargic and disinterested in life.
