Does american idol get their kicks-off?

Asked by maybe_KB (672points) February 11th, 2009

Does American Idol get their kicks-off by watching you break down thinking you’re gonna be kicked off the show.
Then, just in the knick of time when you’re sobbing, groveling to stay on the show they (Paula, Simon etc..) say;
“CONGRAD!-YOU MADE IT TO SEASON 8”
What up w/ that? ...Ratings?
Or,
Are we more simply a society that thrives off of another’s pain?

i’m one of the households who watches evening TV. if they rated my viewing, they’d see us doing homework with the kids and feeding them, on the internet and WII-ing. much of the background noise is a cable channel distant from “american idol.”

question is, is anybody really watching this year. american idol is dying.

I was at someone’s house this evening and their husband was watching, it was so terrible he switched it to ESPN and read a newspaper.

What the heck is a “kicks-off”?

It’s either the same as getting their kicks, or getting their rocks off.

They have to make it suspensing to attract more watchers. They always go too far.

Good question maybe_KB. I actually watched that particular episode and similarly felt a little disgust with the judges’ behavior. It seems to be more and more about what the 4 of them do (and don’t do) and how they react than showcasing legitimate contestants who are trying to get some airtime to pursue their music careers. Of course there are also interesting life stories along the way to watch and some camera-worthy humorous moments to showcase, but beyond that I concur that it’s all about ratings to the producers, and they don’t really care how they get them so long as they are got.

In other words, yes American Idol has gotten worse in my opinion and, like a McD’s sandwhich, after I have a few bites, I realize why I don’t eat there a lot anymore. just my opinion
