How do I fix my HP Pavillion webcam on my laptop?

Asked by acebamboo77 (720points) February 28th, 2009

I have a HP Pavillion DV6000, with a built in webcam. The driver has disappeared completely, and any of my programs, like msn, and quickplay don’t even acknowledge the existence of the webcam at all.

Possible solutions:
1.Check device manager for anything out of place. 2.Try scanning for new hardware. 3.Go to HP website and reinstall the driver. 4.Check BIOS, maybe your webcam was somehow disabled (not likely but still possible).

If all those fail (the hardware is not even being detected) it is most likely a physical device issue and would require part replacement.

That is the best generic windows advice I can give you without knowing any further information.

Thanks Ownage. Looking at the device manager the only thing that has changed is the presence of the webcam under imaging devices.
I will try the other suggestions you gave me. Thank you!
