How many Wii remotes and nunchucks do I need?

Asked by DandyDear711 (1512points) March 6th, 2009

Soon we will own 3 sets. I want to buy one more remote for when the whole family is home. Do I really need to buy a 4th nunchuck?

Our family got the Wii at Christmas and we have four remotes & four nunchuks. This works out well for multi-player games that require both. I suppose it would really depend on the type of games you play and how many of you generally play. Isn’t Wii fun? I got a lot of great advice here on Fluter before I purchased the system.

It depends entirely on what games you play. The only games I’ve played so far that require the nunchuck are Super Mario Galaxy (one or two players only), Wii Sports Boxing (one or two players only), Super Smash Bros (one – four local players, but nunchuck is an option for each, not a requirement), and Wario Ware (one or two players, I think. Haven’t tried it with more)

In general, you should look at your games and figure out A) which are multiplayer up to 4 players, and B) which require a nunchuck. If there are no games that fall into both categories, you don’t need a 4th nunchuck.

If you later buy a game that DOES allow all four players with nunchucks, you can easily buy a 4th one then.

I am gonna ask another question about games… Hope you can provide some input there too!

@bythebay and @MrItty – thanks for your input!

Worse case scenario, you can always SHARE a nunchuck between players if they take turns playing. Not so for the remotes though.

Your problem would be if the players play AT THE SAME TIME.
