What key is Aaron Copland's "Billy the Kid" introduction in?

Asked by zarnold (708points) March 10th, 2009

I’m referring specifically to the key of “The Open Prairie” (and any variations therein); I can’t seem to find info on this online.

I’m not familiar with “Billy the Kid,” but I’ll point out here that it may not actually be “in a key”—Copland experimented with a lot of pretty-sounding atonal and set-theoretic music, and with nonfunctional harmony.

Billy the Kid is certainly from his functional-harmony days.

Got a link to somewhere the audio plays online for free? I can give you my best answer after listening.
