General Question

Can you think of any action-ish movies that aren't violent and are interesting to a general crowd?

Asked by juniper (1910points) March 11th, 2009

I’m in charge of choosing the movie for a get-together with friends, tonight. Half guys, half girls. The guys have informed me that they only like action movies, and the girls tell me they don’t want to watch violent films that hinge on explosions.

I’m trying to think of something in-between.

They are international students, so they haven’t seen everything. Old stuff is okay. Any suggestions, please?

Also, what about Serenity? I haven’t seen it; does it fit the bill? I love Joss Whedon, so I thought, maybe…?

Sahara with Matthew McConaughey. As much action as anyone could stand, but laughs and a low-key romance. Will be loved by all.

Wow, thanks! I love Almost Famous and Run Lola Run. Good ideas.

@adreamofautumn, isn’t Transformers a kids’ movie? Maybe I’m thinking of something else…?

I would like to try “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape,” just ‘cause it’s my favorite of all time. But I couldn’t bear it if my dear friends didn’t like it. :)

La Femme Nikita

@juniper the original cartoons are, not the remake from last year.

@SuperMouse La Femme Nikita was the TV show, the film was just Nikita. I know its samll point but it makes finding the film easier

Its a damn good film though.

@Lightlyseared wasn’t there an American remake of Nikita with Bridget Fonda in the lead role?

The Fugitive.

@SuperMouse Yes. It was called The Assassin or Point of No Return (Depending on territory). Its OK but I prefer the French version.

The original Italian job
, oceans eleven. Caper movies I suppose. Not much violence.

@Lightlyseared I loved the soundtrack (Nina Simone) in Point of No Return

@asmonet I second Serenity!

@syz well you can’t really go wrong with Nina now can you.

I recommend The Bourne Identity It is a thinking mans/womans action movie right from the start. Not big terrible sick explosions. There is some man to man combat violence in it. The focus is on the story and it is a good one. There are also two more that follow that are just as good. The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum.
