HALP! OS X 10.5.6 Update Installation seems to have stalled...

Asked by benseven (3189points) March 13th, 2009

Eek,

Using the software update process, I’ve set my Macbook 2.0GHz CoreDuo (1st Gen) to download and install a whole bunch of updates for my mac. It’s restarted, and is installing the updates, but has been stuck at 13% for the last 20 minutes or so. I’m a bit concerned as I don’t want to rupture the OS by restarting the machine halfway through a software update install… Any ideas?

I’m in work for the next four hours so letting it carry on spinning the beach ball at me for now…

50/50. Wait more until it either finishes or you run out of patience and force a restart. It either will restart, or you’ll have to revert to backup. You did a full backup right before running the updates, right?

@simpleD -I bet he didn’t backup lol

I’d wait. Botched system updates are horrible. Give it a few hours

I left it a couple more hours then forced a restart, and it was fine – I’d argue the necessity of a full backup before a system update as you’d have to be really unlucky for an update to fry your data rather than just corrupting the OS – but Id done one last night anyway so wasn’t too worried.

So did it slay your system?

oh wel, worst case scenario you can just do an archive and install or run the combo update in TDM

@patg7590 No, it didn’t slay my system as I said in my last message!
