Avoiding the 'itchies' ...

Asked by Wilhelm (69points) October 29th, 2007

Alright, so I’m dedicated to growing a beard and keeping it around for a while. The only thing I’m worried about is the 3-week-point where the hair under my chin gets long enough to poke the skin, causing an unbearable amount of itching.

The longest I’ve ever gone without shaving is about a month, but the damned itching was so terrible I decided to call it quits and shave myself a little ‘flavor saver’ (small patch directly under lower lip).

Are there any experienced bearers of beards here that can give a n00b some pointers on avoiding this irritating condition or am I just going to have to bite the bullet and tough it out?

I can haz halpz, pls? k thx bai!

I think you will have to tough it out. The 3–4 week point sucks, but after that you are smooth sailing. Congrats on entering the world of Beard-dom.

Find a high-quality hypoallergenic facial moisturizer and massage it into your beard when you shower the same way you’d use conditioner in your hair. The key is to keep the hair (and the skin around the hair) very soft.

@gailcalled:

“I can have help please? OK, Thanks, Bye!”

It’s a slanguage that’s evolved from several sources. Most notably the lolcatz and text messaging.
