It’s the commucation. When you talk to them it sometimes feels like your talking to them in person or you feel close to them.

Thats how I feel when I talk to friends that moved away.

My spouse had to travel out of the country during Christmas last year. I hooked up a computer downstairs so that the camera showed the entire room at the kids level.
On Christmas morning we had Skype video call live so that my spouse could take part in the Christmas morning excitement.

I think with video and Skype or other such programs being apart is not quite as hard. It is as close as you can get to being there.

I was living in London for 6 months and instant messengers and Skype were life savers. I got to talk to my entire family on Christmas through Skype and even see my Dad and half-brother because we both had cameras set up.

It was rough sometimes not ALWAYS being able to get in touch (especially with the time difference), but emails and the occasional (fairly rare) phone call definitely made up for the fact that we weren’t always at our computers at the same time and it wasn’t too hard to feel connected.

Get a webcam and microphone, then you can see them and talk to them and it will be like they are in the same room
