Can we describe Meshuggah's song Bleed as satanic?

Asked by archaeopteryx (1004points) April 13th, 2009

Especially after watching the video.

Note: I do NOT recommend you to watch this video if you were less than 18 years old. This might sound a bit silly, since the video doesn’t really contain any nudity or serious satanic scenes, but it might contain ugly subliminal messages that might slip into your mind with you paying attention.

Did you even read the lyrics? I did. After reading them, I don’t see how you can come to the conclusion that the song is even remotely “satanic”. Dark images and lyrics do not automatically equate to “evil”.

In what respect, Charlie?

No, the song is not satanic.

First of all, to be “satanic” means there is some worship of Satan / the forces of Hell. This song doesn’t worship those ideas at all. It describes the agony of death, and perhaps gods/demons making a play for his soul. But it doesn’t sound like he’s enjoying it much, or worshipping it much. He’s in torturous pain about it.

It’s dark, it’s filled with images of a cruel underworld, and it talks about blood quite a bit.

And it’s crap. I mean, it’s a really bad song (and I like metal)

…but that doesn’t make it Satanic.

@bananafish

Yeah, you’re right, it’s a very bloated song.
Oh, and, thanks for the link by the way.

Nope. Read the lyrics…not satanic. Modern Satanism, especially those principles espoused by Anton Lavey and other Neo-Satanists can be found expressed in the lyrics of Marilyn Manson, in the song “The Reflecting God” and briefly in “Minute of Decay”. Danzig also made some references to modern Satanic Philosophy on his album “Lucifuge”.

Meshuggah,
sounds like my grandfather!

@archaeopteryx, can you define “Satanic”?

Do you mean actually worshipping Satan in opposition to Yahweh? Because I’m pretty sure that not even real Satanists do that.

@srmorgan ha!

I’m impressed that you can distinguish one song from the next.

Good band though!
