Why do they call them 18-wheelers?

I count ten wheels… eleven if you count the steering wheel.

Because some of the axels have 4 wheels (2 on each side).

The trailer itself has 8 wheels. The rig itself has 8 wheels under the hitch and two front wheels for the steering. 18 wheels total.

That’s stupid. Those axles with double wheels shouldn’t count.
