What kind of headphones should I buy?

Asked by loveurmindnsoul (380points) April 26th, 2009

I’m looking for full size/earpad headphones that are under 150$ [hopefully under 100$ if you can]. I was looking at the Sennheiser PX100, but then someone suggested the Skullycandy brand and I know nothing about Skullycandy except that they are relatively new. Factors I’m looking for is comfort, sound quality and well I guess the obvious.

Thanks =D

I’m a die hard Skullcandy fan. As long as you don’t abuse them every single day, they last and run cheaper than most other brands. At least in my area – I haven’t compared online prices.

Also a Skullcandy fan. I abuse them every day, and they still work.

And when I did have a pair break near the jack, I sent it back to them and they replaced them no questions asked. Fairly quickly, also.

And they look good.

@dverhey: I’ve also had a replacement go well, just as you did. My only problem is with the lower end stuff like their earbuds, sometimes if you abuse them they crap out I used mine as my gym headphones and broke them within four months. But I wasn’t even trying to be nice to them. And considering their small size I am impressed in how long they lasted.

I have the Full Metal Jackets now.

I trashed my Smokin Buds in a ski accident, and they also have the thing where when you send back the crushed pair, they’ll give you a 1/2 of discount on any of their other headphones. Or just replace the other. I think that’s pretty cool.

I love my skull candy headphones and earbuds. I like the earbuds when I am laying down listening to calming music. My husband is hooked, as well.

So it seems like the vote is in for Skullcandy. Now which model/make should I get?

Any other brands that I should be aware of?

I hate to be an asshole—well not really—but don’t listen to any of these people. Skullcandy’s are terrible fucking headphones.

Check out Grado’s SR-60s, or even the SR-80s—a bit pricier but definitely worth it!

The SR-60s can be had for about $150 CAD on eBay. Best headphones for the money.

No no, that’s why I asked this question. Everyone has the right to state their opinion and I’m glad you did. I want to know what are the best headphones out there.

Thanks for giving me your input

@Jamspoon: Hey, whatever. I’ve had good experience with my Skullcandy’s, and I would assume you had bad experiences with yours. But they work for me, and that’s what matters.

No definitely, I apologize for any perceived hostility, I didn’t mean to attack anybody personally for buying Skullcandy’s—they’re stylish looking headphones, I understand that makes it hard not to buy them.

The problem with Skullcandy’s is their sound profile. They produce far too much in the low end—bass—and completely fail to reproduce highs to any adequate degree. The other problem is their price when you consider their poor performance.

It’s “style” over function, and you’re paying for it.

In the @loveurmindnsoul‘s price range there are much better cans to be had out there.

DeanV's avatar

@Jamspoon I don’t doubt it. But keep in mind I’m a vain teenager. :)

loveurmindnsoul's avatar

Hmm, well I’m not really into style over function. I rather have great sound quality. I mean my hair is going to be hiding the headphones anyways, so it doesn’t matter to me.

Yeah, I know. It was actually a joke. I know what you mean though, with songs at my bitrate, sometimes there’s not much my headphones can do.

Skullcandy skullcrushers. It has, a motherf*cking SUBWOOFER in it.

Bass galore, and crisp clean sound. (BTW, they are ugly as hell, so don’t say they are only style)

Lol, ok.
Yea I prefer Over the Head style type of headphones

Thanks I’ll look into it
