Why do pornstar (have to) say they're 18 in the porn itself.

Asked by LanceVance (645points) July 4th, 2009

They could say, perhaps, that they are 17. The only condition is that the girl herself is 18 in real life. If she said she were 17 in a movie, she’d also bo breaking the law in a movie… not in real life (where she’d be 18 as said).

Or is there something wrong with that thinking?

There is a law that states in porn you can not pretend to be underage (well under 18. A 30 year old could claim to be 18). I believe it was passed around 2002. I will look for it.

creepy

Why would you want them to pretend to be underage?

LanceVance's avatar

Not that I’d want them to prevent to be underage, but I assumed it’d increase the sales somehow. A forbidden fruit tests best theory.

@LanceVance – Oh. I understand.

I don’t know, that might be something that could land them in hot water, though. As johnpowell stated, there might be a law that prevents it, too.

Given that there are always groups that are out to bring down the porn industry, I’m sure someone would pounce in a second.

I think this is it.

Men like innocent young girls. 18 is as young as is legally allowed, but you’d be wrong if you think there aren’t guys who enjoy looking at younger than that (and in fairness sometimes it’s hard to tell).

But they say it because it sells better if you can label your porn as all 18 year old new girls. “Innocent”

And I forget what country it is, but in Europe somewhere you can star in porn and like the legal consent age for sex is either 16 or 17…... I forget which. (and obviously their porn is illegal outside the country).

There is a Showtime series called Californication. In season 1, one of the main characters of the show is a promiscuous 16 year old who screws the main character. They show her nude sex scene. In real life the actress is actually 21. So if there are any laws stating underage sex role playing is illegal then this series clearly defied that law. It does not matter that this series is not porn. It depicted a 16 year old naked and having sex with some 40 year old man.

not sure if what johnpowell said is true, but it certainly makes sense. What if she were dressed up as a schoolgirl and said she was 11? how would you feel about it then? I think it’s those types of movies they’re trying to avoid, because even if there are no minors involved in the actual making of the film, there are certain outcomes that could be promoting paedophilia. Just look at all the sick Japanese “softcore”.

@westy81585: i think it might be Bulgaria… Or Sweden, where the age of consent is 15.

@Jack79 :: My info comes from a Frontline episode a long time ago. I’m looking for the exact clip.

Looks like it is in the last clip. (warning: not safe for work or animals, or kids)

icidentally, in the recent film “The Reader” Kate Winslett’s co-star was under 18 during filming, and they had to wait for him to turn 18 to film all the nude scenes (which are actually shown in the beginning of the film).

?
you don’t see something wrong w/that?
well, let’s make it a year younger.
some 18 yo’s can pass as 16. see anything wrong w/that yet?
I have carded a 22 yo that looked 14. do you see something wrong w/that yet?
lets say this 22 yo is in a porn and just says he is 14 (after all, from appearances he can pass as one) that don’t make you just the least bit queasy?
so, there you are, watching a porn WITH A 14 YO IN IT.
I find something wrong w/that.
there is a reason why there are laws about that sort of thing.

some guys would feel “dirty” about it(which they should) so 18 is the youngest they could go in their fantasy without it being illegal.

yeah some guys are fucked up when it comes to porn.

@prude Congrats for living up to your nickname. There is no ACTUAL 14 years old in the movie. By that same reasoning you’re watching movies with MURDER in them, with RAPE them, with lots of other things. Are they real? NO, and they don’t upset you as much, why? Because you’ve been implanted a double standard, and a stupid one at that, where killing, maiming, tortureing and raping aren’t as bad as a consenting (fake or true that it might be) 14 years old who has sex.

Moves are all about pretending, and so are porn movies, do you think pornstars actually feel that good when they act in those movies? Maybe some of them (Cytherea comes to mind) but surely no all of them, not even most of them.
And even if they did, why would it be bad? Why would the fact that a biologically developed human being wants to have sex and acts on that desire be a bad thing?
In nature animals have sex from the moment they’re developed to the moment they reach menopause/andropause. Why should we act any different?

prude's avatar

@Thammuz watching a horror flick or crime drama where these are not actually happening is not the same as watching someone who is of age and just says he is not take part in sexual practices.
you are right about the movies being all about pretending.
so, why watch a person(s) who can pass and pretend to be children?
hmmmm….
why would ANYONE want to watch something that looked like children (even if they weren’t) having sex (in porn, it quite often is real)?
tell me.
I wouldn’t be able to.
so as far as living up to my screen name in this case- more than happy.

@prude: “why would ANYONE want to watch something that looked like children (even if they weren’t) having sex (in porn, it quite often is real)?”

I don’t know and i don’t care. That’s not the point. Laws are made to prevent bad things happening (like, you know, ACTUAL children being molested, thing that would be probably less of a hassle if you let the pedos AT LEAST jerk off to something they liked), not to tell us what we can or can’t want to watch. But hey, it’s your country, your rights that are stripped away from you, your problem. I live in italy, which is even worse, but sadly it was already like this beofre i was even born. YOU on the other hand are actually willingly bending over to let your government shove it up your ass.

You do realize that that’s simply your government telling you what you ought to think, don’t you? If one day somebody will want to outlaw, i dunno, doggy style in pornography, there will be this precedent making this all that much smooth.

“You honour, we want to outlaw doggy style in pornography because it’s disgusting and offensive to women, we already outlawed pretending to be underage because we considered it obscene, and we consider obscene doggy style as well”
“Shit, people, don’t you have anything better to do?”

The purpose of Law is to prevent ACTUAL damage, not to tell you what you can or can’t like/want to watch/want to have sex with. As long as you don’t rape/kidnap/kill/maim/traumatize anybody you’re FREE to do whatever you want in an ideal society.
In your society (and mine as well) you’re just “FREE to do as we tell you
