Is cellswapper.com a legit site?

Asked by qualitycontrol (2573points) July 11th, 2009

Does anyone have any experience with this site? It links up people to take over each cell phone plans so the person giving up the plan can get out free and clear and the person taking over has a shorter term and a free phone (if offered). I’m trying to get out of my ATT plan because the service sucks and my cell bill is so high.

Well there’s usually a cancellation fee that usually has to be paid. Beyond that I’m not sure.

I think the site itself is legit in the same way that CraigsList is legit, but one should still use caution when proceeding with transactions.

It also gets the green light from McAfee Site Advisor and they are usually on top of scam and spam sites and give you specific warnings.

I took a quick look at it, but couldn’t tell whether the site itself gets involved in the individual transactions or what the charge would be.

I’m quite happy with ATT (surprise, surprise) so have never had any use for such a site, but it does not appear to be a scam.
