Do you think spending money here on Earth would make the world less developed?

Asked by Zendo (1752points) July 20th, 2009

Would we truly be less technologically developed were we to leave outer space alone for a few years? Would people truly be put at risk were we to spend our dollars here within our own stratosphere?

Hello – where do you think the money for space exploration goes? We don’t shoot it at the moon, my friend, it goes straight to the fuel providers, the tile fabricators, the computer technicians, and from them spreads out into the country side like a tide, the grocery, the Wal Mart etc.

The exploration of space has many practical applications as well, since there is a lot of innovation that goes into it.

We don’t spend enough on space exploration. It’s been 40 years since the moon landing. It’s almost shameful there hasn’t been more progress.

We do very little pure research anymore. Space exploration has led to many innovations for life here on Earth.

“Since 1976, about 1,400 documented NASA inventions have benefited U.S. industry, improved the quality of life and created jobs for Americans. The Apollo program has helped change the way of life in America, especially in health care.” Source

a lot of advancements in physics were aimed at space exploration, and many of them you use in your daily life.

People were screaming the same thing with the original moon mission. I don’t hear a lot of people saying that we never should have gone now.

A silly question, because Space exploration dollars ARE spent on Earth.

Oh, by the way, did you know that the Internet is a result of the Space Race?

By that point, your theory is provably false. Spending money on Space exploration has direct and tangible benefits to us here on Earth.

a song from the 70’s

It’s 1973 wonder who we gonna be
Who’s in power now?
I think I’ll turn on the TV

The man on the news said that China’s gonna beat us
We shot all our dreamers and there’s no one left to lead us!
We need a solution, We need salvation!
Lets send some people to the moon to gather information!
They brought back a big bag of rocks
Only cost 13 million
Must be nice rocks
(from Larry Norman, I’m Only Visiting this Planet.)

We could spend the money on things that stay on earth. Accomplishing the same task of feeding the infrastructure.

Going to space is about climbing a mountain because it its there.

One more thing. No matter what. Space exploration is inevitable.

In a few billion years the sun will expand and consume half our universe. I hope that by then we are far far away. But for now no rush. It will come it time.
