What's your opinion on the System of a Down hiatus and do you think they'll ever get back together?

Asked by erichw1504 (26453points) July 31st, 2009

So the band System of a Down has been on hiatus for a while now. What’s up with that? Wouldn’t you like for them to continue creating music together? Any other thoughts?

A few of the band members are doing side projects , maybe they are finishing things up before they start new SOAD stuff .

Most of them said they’re open to getting back together, but there’s no time table or anything.

I think I’d like them to, One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to was SOAD, Korn, and Ozzy Osbourne at Ozz fest a few years back.
System’s music kind of dropped off a bit before they broke up, but if they can recapture some of the early days magic that’d be awesome.

I would like for them to get reunite, but PLEASE leave the vocals to serj and serj only!

@teh_kvlt_liberal You didn’t like more of Daron on their latest albums? I thought it was good, but I agree maybe they should do a little less of him if they release a new album.

Serj is one of my favorite vocalists of all time!

Nah not really, I kind of thought he was annoying.

@teh_kvlt_liberal he should stay a back up singer, he’s far too one dimensional to carry that 60–40 split between him and serj that they tried on their last.

Well I think they should get a better back-up singer then
I’m just kidding, but you are right
I still find his vocals annoying though

I miss System of a Down a lot! I had to hear their side projects because I was curious and like their music. Serj Tankian and Scars on Broadway did a good job!

Anybody else here heard these two artists?

I really liked Serj’s Solo Stuff, but Scars On Broadways wasn’t as good.

SOAD is my favorite heavy metal band (and I don’t usually listen to metal).

I was one of the few people that really enjoyed Mesmerize and Hypnotize, despite Daron’s sub-par vocals. Yes, I’m a huge fan of Serj, but Daron’s vocals never bothered me as much as it seemed to bother everyone else.

With that said, the chance of the group getting back together look pretty slim. From what I understand, Daron was the brains behind most of the music and he was having creative differences with Serj (probably having to do with vocal duties). I really hope they get their differences worked out because SOAD created a unique and approachable sound. It would be a shame to lose the talent of that group.

Even if they do come back and make music again, it won’t be the same. They had their glorious day already.

It’s like with Rage Against the Machine where after their first album, everything that followed was just more of what we’ve already heard. SOAD blew through their originality pretty quickly and anything past “toxicity” is pretty much just more of the same.

If they want to preserve the “awesome” that was SOAD, they’d be better off going their spearate ways instead of trying to relive past successes. SOAD fans don’t want an album where they say “this is where System wussed out”.
