Where could I find someone to design something for me?

Asked by bright_eyes00 (1343points) August 9th, 2009

I have the idea, I have the rough draft, I just need someone who can actually draw/create a better (much better) version than the one I pulled up. I’m trying to design a book cover for my next novel and I’m hitting a dead end because I’m not very artistic. Where could I find someone to give my ideas to and have them spruce it up for me???

Go to your local community college and put an ad on a bulletin board in the art department and in the computer/tech department.

If you don’t want to spend thousands of dollars, but still a solid amount, you can find terrific work at many websites. I recommend :

99designs.com – Terrific freelance design community.
Crowd Spring – Another choice

You could try posting in the Alchemy section on Etsy – I know several people who have had good luck having custom work done for them there. You could also just browse around Etsy, find a few artists whose styles you like, and email them to see if they’d be willing to do a custom piece for you. Most of the people on Etsy are very friendly and helpful, and it’s likely that you could find someone who wouldn’t charge you an arm and a leg for it… Good luck!

Are you planning on self-publishing your book?

I do a little bit of artistic design on the side. My rates are cheap and I do not ask for anything beyond my artistic fees. The rights to the image(s) are yours one I receive your final payment. PM me for more info.

There are tons of inspiration and artists at deviantart.
You could find and order prints there or talk to artists who’s style you prefer.
Flickr is also an acceptable online venue for this.
This way, you know the portfolio/style of the artist you’re getting.
