You do not become a moderator , the moderator becomes you .
Chances are if they accept new mods , you will have to prove your worth . But blatantly asking could result in a no , Maybe you should donate some funds to fluther.com . Or ask Bendrew or a present moderator how to become one .

I think hanging around here for a quite some time and , more importantly, ask questions and answer others’ questions, will prove to the people who decide upon a moderator-ship that you are capable (or not) for the job.
I could be totally wrong though.

You would have to be around here for a long time, probably at least six months. You have to prove your equanimity and calmness in the face of ad hominem attacks and other forms of abrasiveness. You’ve got to show you have the “fluther” attitude and that you’ve got the people skills to effectively implement the guidelines without pissing anyone off more than necessary. For example, you need to know how to spell well, and use good grammar, and how to avoid txt speak.

Eventually, I guess when they need more moderators, you may be invited to do so. Some people volunteer and others are asked. I suppose you have to be willing to spend a certain amount of time here. However, it isn’t enough just to be around for a long time. You have to have the right temperament. It would probably be good if you have a history of supporting the guidelines, and not fighting or complaining about them.

Of course, I’m just guessing, based on my observations of who has become a moderator over the time I’ve been here.

you have to Wrestle Andrew. you get one arm tied behind your back, he gets a baseball bat, if you live, you get to be a moderator.

rebbel's avatar

It sounds unfair that one arm gets tied behind your back, but you must know that Andrew has no arms at all.
Hence the baseballbat.

ABoyNamedBoobs03's avatar

@rebbel it’s supposed to be unfair, only the best of the best, or those with the thickest skulls, get to be a part of the mod squad.

Oh augustlan.. Where are youuu…?

avvooooooo's avatar

Well, I would think the first step would be having been here more than two days.

Start with a little bribe contribution to the Fluther gods.

Filling out your profile would be a nice first step.

Search everything that I’ve done on here and DON’T do it.

I think the best Mods are the people who do not thrive to become one.

Be a good member first.

@iAManEXPERT Who are you? You’ve barely got a lurve score and you want to be a moderator? Why?

You remind me very much of certain types of people I’ve encountered on message boards; the type that want to have some power or control over others, even if it’s just editing the posts of faceless people on the internet and “laying down the law.”

I’m not saying this is definitely you, but the details certainly match up:

New to the site? Check.
Barely contributed anything? Check.
Asking for a position of power? Check.

This looks awful suspicious. I’m just sayin’...

@Blondesjon – well, I don’t know AAAAAAAaaaaaaa a aa aaaa a a a a

@drdoombot You forgot “unhelpful contributions” and “lack of attention to grammar, capitalization and spelling.”

I have wondered if the asker of this question is really an anonymous avatar for someone who has been around a while. Someone who doesn’t want it known that they would like to be a moderator until they know the consequence of making that desire public.

ABoyNamedBoobs03's avatar

@drdoombot I think you’re looking a little far into it and not really being very helpful. it probably would have been easier to say something along the lines of

“generally the ones who are made mods have accumulated a decent amount of lurve and been on the site for a while, it helps to get to know you and find out if you are a genuine contributor to the site, there isn’t any sort of ‘program’ you enter as training and such that you can just join, These kinds of things usually take months before anyone is consider to become a moderator.”

@ABoyNamedBoobs03 Other people in this thread already played Good Cop. Someone had to play Bad Cop, and this time it was me. 8)

Saturated_Brain's avatar

@daloon I don’t think so. Someone who’s been on here for a long time should know how the rules of the collective work.

ABoyNamedBoobs03's avatar

@drdoombot there’s no purpose to playing “bad cop” on an internet information site….

Apply on the prescribed form in triplicate using black ink.
