Can you move while on Probation?

Asked by COBx666 (105points) September 8th, 2009

If you are on probation do you have to wait a certain time period before you can move. (Not out of the province just to a different city.)

You need to talk to your probation officer. Sometimes probation can be transferred to another city. However, if you are on probation and you move without telling your probation officer or the court, you can be considered to be in violation. And that is not what you want to be.

Can you move into a house with someone who has a criminal record but is not on probation and committed the crime a LONG time ago??

The conditions for your parole are very, very specific to your offense. They could well involve some restriction of association and housing.

Check with the parole authorities or see the written terms of parole.

Once again, talk to your probation officer. It can depend on the crime, both yours and the other person’s, as well as the conditions of your probation.

Why push the envelope? Go ask the one person that will know: your probation officer. Then do what he/she says. Once you are off probation it will be a different story, but first you have to get there.
