Getting Things Done Application?

Asked by PaulCC (71points) September 14th, 2009

Can anyone give me advice on a good GTD/todo application? I need something that’s both online and offline and free!

I’m going around in circles – from Google to Zoho to Toodledo to RTM and I can’t seem to find something that’s right.

help!

You can’t go wrong with Remember the Milk. There is a lot of cross-platform support for it as well. Lifehacker has also done a number of articles about GTD apps. Look them up.

I think RTM is going to be the best you can get. Things is great for the Mac.

And if you’re sharing with a team, Pivotal is the very very best.

I personally like Todoist.com the best. Extremely simple and easy to use.

I second @erichw1504 – I find if I don’t use a very minimalist application I can get distracted by what’s supposed to be helping me.

Thanks to vereyone for their answers so far. Really helpful..

A couple of things I’ve come across….

Many of the offline apps use Gears (RTM in particular). Gears have never worked consistently for me – even with the Chrome browser. I’m afraid I’m a Firefox person so I need offline that isn’t Gears based.

The RTM web interface doesn’t work for me and the fact that the google gadget redirects to the website to add notes isn’t good (but still – RTM is one of the best….).

I like Toodledo for it’s goals and contexts and so on – RTM doesn’t come close to this but the lack of offline is a problem.

Todoist is simple. But too simple for me (but I do like te task hierarchy – it’s neat).

I guess I’ve just gone back round in circles again…......
