What do you suggest to backup photos online? Picasa Web Albums? What about video?

Asked by rexpresso (922points) October 8th, 2009

I want to safeguard (and be able to share selectively, too—and manage) my whole media collection. Photos and videos. Basically, what do you suggest? Thanks!

…..definitely Picasa….. strong AI to optimize image quality….. totally logical organization of photos…. and then to place on web as private [ you provide names/email addresses that can view them] ..... or public if you want to ‘share’ for critical review of your photoart….. I also use Adobe Photo Elements for more advanced tools and image processing….. and would prefer to use Adobe Photoshop for more professional image manipulation such as HDR…...... Picasa is also easy to manage if one wants to have a presence on Flickr as well….. enjoy!

thanks @virtualist now let me ask you one thing, it wasn’t clear to me, it says on wikipedia that they have the right to use photos on their random pages, i don’t care if they do with with photos that i make public, but i expect they won’t be doing it with private photos will they? thanks again

….I would be shocked if they did that without your permission….... Picasa has a nice FAQ page, I’m sure….....

I haven’t uploaded anything in ages, but I think Picasa limits video to 100mb in size.

@drdoombot ..... if one is uploading from Picasa it is 1 GB limit !

I actually prefer Flickr because it has unlimited high quality storage, plus it holds (short) movies. Picasa gets more expensive if you start to use lots of storage.

If you purely want backup, and don’t care about sharing the photos, you might also try mozy or backblaze or even amazon s3.
