Contact your local women’s shelter, United Way etc. A lot of times they take cell phones- working or not- and use them. In the case of the not working ones, they recycle them and get money for it.

I’ve been getting postage-paid envelopes in some of my packages from a charity that recycles old cell phones and uses the money to provide free phone calls for our soldiers overseas.
