Asked by Moxy (182points) November 2nd, 2009

I want to buy a mp3 player, or a ipod or a mp4 player or iphone. When you buy one of these does the music already come with it like is it already built into it or does each one come with no songs to start you off with and do I need acredit card to buy songs when I download them aswell as having Quicktime in my computer because my computer wont take Quicktime. Please help this is all new to me. Which is the better one to have out of a ipod, iphone, mp3 or mp4 or ipod nano?

A lot going on in that question, but I will do my best to answer the parts of it…

-No iPods come preloaded with music, but there are many free songs you can get in the iTunes store (to download songs, you will need a credit card number on file, or a paypal account linked)
-You can import songs from cds you own, and put them on your iPod, too.
-You will need iTunes, which also requires Quicktime to run.
-“The best” iPod to buy is really up to you… the shuffle is small and portable, but lacks a screen, the nano is small and can play videos and games, but the capacity is kind of small, the classic comes in a variety of capacities and can play videos and games, and the iPhone and iPod touch feature touch screens which can be used to interact with applications which you can download.

MP4
MP4 is an iPod compatible format. Converting your videos to this format allows you to upload them to your iPod and watch them on the go! The MP4 format delivers DVD-quality video in much smaller file sizes.

Now, which is better? The iphone is has it all but if you have a ton of data and video, you may want a separate ipod.

@buckyboy28 actually a couple years back there was some sort of apple promotion where if you got the special “U2” ipod it came loaded with their catalog. But I’m just splitting hairs.
