How do I upgrade Windows with bootcamp?

Asked by lunabean (630points) November 22nd, 2009

I want to upgrade to Windows 7 and I have Windows XP installed through boot camp now. Would I install Windows 7 by booting into windows and installing from there or through the mac side with the boot camp assistant?

You should be able to put the disk in while on the Windows side. Just watch the install, while the system installs the computer will reboot. You need to make sure it boots into Windows instead of Mac.

As far as I know you can not upgrade from XP to Windows 7 without losing all your data on the windows partition.

If you are cool with that it should be pretty easy. Just start from scratch. Tons of directions for installing Windows 7 are available on the Google.

This isn’t a Apple problem. A dell user wanting to go from XP to Windows 7 will have the same problem.
