Question about domain forwarding?

Asked by jazzjeppe (2598points) November 28th, 2009

I am using frame forward to my primary website since I got a scondary domain name. Frame Forwarding masks the original domain name (right?) but my question is do I need to change setting in statistics services, adsense etc to the domain I am frame forwarding? Or is the original domain still “active” (but masked)?

It should still count as a hit to your statistics service, as the page is still loaded.

For the most part you will want to avoid frame forwarding if you are looking to higher ranks in search engines and all around better feedback.

Frame forwarding, as you mentioned, masks the original domain name which is considered deception to your visitors for the most part. Search engines notice this, and some of your clients do as well.

That aside, to answer your question about the settings in your adsense, the original domain is the one the content is being pulled from (within a frame on the masking one) and is where you should have the statistics setup for. Unfortunately, your analytic statistics may be incomplete since each visitor is tunneling through another site – which will mean all the direct visitors to the main page will all be the IP address of the masking domain.

It is a bit confusing, but I hope this helps. There may be some reasons to use frame forwarding when nothing else will work for your situation, but if it’s out of deception, you’re better off not to in the long run. Try using temporary (302) or permanent (301) redirects to forward domains when possible.

Good luck!
