I need an artist or album recommendation that has piano tracks only?

Asked by anoop66 (899points) December 13th, 2009

I loved Yann Tiersen-Comptine d’un autre été: L’après-midi and Michael Nyman – Theme From The Piano. Do you know of any album/artist I can purchase that has similar piano music. Shouldn’t have vocals and shouldn’t be like the classical mozart stuff please.

Christopher O’Riley is pretty good; he covers a lot of recording artists/bands and does it with his own flair; in particular, his Radiohead covers are pretty cool IMO.

It’s an oldie, but the Windham Hill label features piano only tracks with numerous artists that you may not be familiar with. Thanks for posting; I have never heard of Yann Tiersen before, and enjoyed what I heard.

This is one of my favorite non-classical piano songs. Link. It’s off the BSG soundtrack, which I would highly recommend.

I suggest browsing around Magnatune for some great piano music—classical and new agey.

While browsing, I found this and liked it a lot, especially “Piano Circus”. I also like Ehren Starks (that album is ‘Lines Build Walls’; he has another).

If you’re not sure where to start, one of the collections might work, like Great Pianists (Rob Costlow is great, and haunting); New Age Piano is also great. If you really want true classical music, check out the Classical page.

Some other things to keep in mind: Magnatune will let you listen to an entire album over and over if you like, without having to buy anything; they have a daily “free song” (but it’s their choice as to what it will be); they also have podcasts of their music (I like their New Age Piano one). Also, the last time I bought something off their site, they let you choose how much to pay for the album.

HTH!
