How do you make lumpia?

Asked by Zathura12 (68points) December 14th, 2009

I’ve made lumpia before. I’ve made lumpia before with a pre-fried ground beef, carrot and onion mixture. The question is do I have to do this or can I just put it in raw and deep fry it?

No. You really need to fry it up first, or the meat won’t cook and you’ll die.

I’ve always pre-cooked the meat also because the frying time is too short to properly cook the meat when it’s wrapped like that,

We always make the “meat” lumpia with raw ground meat and minced water chestnuts along with Mom’s secret spices. The trick is eo wrap them so they are no thicker than your little finger. Then when you fry them they cook through. “Vegetable” (not vegetarian) lumpia are 2–3 times bigger around and filled with a mixture of julienned vegetables and cooked slivered chicken or pork. Mom’s were always neatly wrapped but my brother-in-law’s mom made lumpia that looked like exploded trick cigars. I like my lumpia plain but there are usually dipping sauces

@galileogirl If you make them that thin you can fry them through like that.
