Need help identifying a sci fi book?

Asked by DoctorA (9points) December 29th, 2009

I’m trying to identify a sci fi book or short story that I read in the early 80’s.

It was about a future in which dogs evolved into a human like appearance, and built a human like society. The story followed a man that traveled into the future(??), and fell in love with one of the women of that time, without knowing that the people were dogs.

The woman was happy, energetic, always delighted to see him, etc.

They went to a museum and it was there that he saw one of those progressive evolution banners. Only instead of apes, it was dogs. It had a very M. Night Shyamalan twist.

Thanks in advance

Clifford Simak, City.

Reminds me of that scene where the Ghostbusters reach the top of the building and see Dana and Tully turned into gargoyles by Gozer. Whereupon Venkman turns to Stantz and says: “So… she’s a dog.”

I haven’t read that one, and a quick look in Google failed to turn it up. But if you liked it, here’s something more science than scipfi but likely to peak your interest: The Wolf in the Parlor
