What is this bump on my tongue and how do I get rid of it?

Asked by troubleinharlem (7991points) January 6th, 2010

It really, really hurts and it’s on the tip of my tongue. I’m not sure what it is, however…

My Mother calls them lie bumps ;)
But probably just from eating too much salt. I get little sores on my tongue if I’ve had a lot of salt. So strange!

Oh, please go get that checked out. If you didn’t bite your tongue or injure it than the following can be the cause. Poor dental hygiene that caused your tongue to get infected or cause ulcers, genital herpes, or a reaction to some acidic food you ate. If regular washing doesn’t take care of it in a day or two or there is a bad odor that doesn’t go away, see a dentist.

they are lil speed-bumps to help you slow down your eating habits…

No really, as @Pandora said, I sometimes get them when my stomach gets too acidic. If you look close, it is one of the protrutions on your tongue which looks almost white, and it hurts like a b!]€h, right?
If it doesn’t go away by itself in a few days, go have it checked out.

Here’s what the chart on this site says:
“12. Do you have small, painful bumps on your tongue? Yes—> These bumps are probably INFLAMED PAPILLAE (where the taste buds are) due to an injury from a burn caused by hot food or drink, or a self-inflicted bite. —> The inflammation and bump will usually go away on its own. Avoid hot, spicy and acidic foods. Use an analgesic, such acetaminophen or ibuprofen, to relieve pain.”

I get them sometimes. I they’re the thing I’m thinking of, I put salt on them. It burns for a little bit, but then it’s gone the next day.
