So you stumble into someone's porn collection...

Asked by BluRhino (1401points) January 11th, 2010

When working as a computer tech, (home and small biz) data recovery was a frequent task. Occasionally I would come across porn in the process. Law requires it be reported, if it contains child pornography. Which means I had to look at enough of it to ascertain that. (Please back up your data so I dont have to see that!)

So, you are at someone’s house (friend/relative,customer,etc) to use/work on their system for a minute, and you stumble into some saved porn; no one is around at the time. Do you:

A: Click away and try to forget it;

B: Look at it long enough to see if its home made or downloaded;

C: Downloaded: see what kinda stuff they are into; and who is the bigger perv – you or them.

D: Home made; would you watch it?

Copy it for myself.

lol if it was child porn I would definitly report it.

E. All of the above, then ask Fluther to assuage my pervy guilt.

JustAnother's avatar

Gross. Definately would change the relationship, if not terminate it.

asmonet's avatar

@JustAnother: Cause you’ve never seen porn.~

Yeah, I’d probably do all of that in that order… except the last one. I don’t need to see my friends banging.

You leave it out, you’re asking for it to get looked at, sorry.

JustAnother's avatar

@asmonet I saw it before, how I know it’s gross.

filmfann's avatar

@frdelrosario pervy guilt. LOL.
I wouldn’t go looking for it, but if you accidentally see it, judge only by what you saw without further inquiry.

People end relationships over porn?

Bugabear's avatar

C. It’s a breach of privacy to look at it but if they dont keep it hidden away well enough then that their fault. D if I happen to have the hots for them.

@Shield_of_Achilles Is something else I’d do.

@nikipedia Very very absurd people do, apparently.

I could totally see myself starting a relationship over porn, but not ending one.

asmonet's avatar

@nikipedia: Seriously.

@JustAnother: That’s rather judgmental. To end an entire relationship over how someone spends their free time making themselves feel better (and in a healthy way I might add), in a way society has not necessarily deemed inappropriate because of your own tastes… I’d rather have a friend who jerks it to some naked people than a friend as fickle as you seem to be.

asmonet's avatar

@JustAnother; And besides that, you do realize just because you’ve seen a bit doesn’t mean you’ve seen the entire breadth of pornography. Some is classy, some is upsetting, some is just plain old sex. If you were objecting to a kind of pornography whose subject was off putting and made you uncomfortable about that person I could understand. But just porn in general? Even soft-core? Which is just people stripping slowly and posing for the most part… that would cause the same response?

Blanket judgments are bad, mmkay?

@delirium + @asmonet: I fucking love you girls.

Lurves the phrasing of this question, and the mod who let it slide.

@nikipedia @asmonet I can see the three of us having the greatest girls night out ever.

@frdelrosario : no pervy guilt here for me; porn does not affect me like that. My personal choice in the matter is to click away; I do not care what you are into..unless the girl in the video is my girlfriend.

I once had a customer hire me to troubleshoot his gay porn ppv issues…of course he did not tell the call center that, and only told me when I reached his front door. I had the option to leave, but I was miles from the office, and working on commission, (sigh)...his wife and kid were in the living room watching tv, and apparently everyone was cool with it..whatever..(I couldn’t fix it either)

Depends on who’s porn it is….my mothers? I certainly don’t want to know what kind of porn she’s into.

My guy friends? Might want to tease him for a little on this one…..

My boyfriends? Might want to find out what might turn him on for the future… (or if hes an effin freak by my standards)

If its homemade…Im sure you can generalize:
Moms – dont want my eyes to bleed;
guy friends…not interested in seeing that either but might be interested in looking for a second to see who the chick is…...;
and my boyfriends – wanting to see if its me for various reasons…or maybe trying to watch us.

@asmonet Some would have a sililiar response if they found out a friend was a part of the Democrat or Republican party. You said you’d break off a friendship if you deemed the friend as being too fickle. There are some things that some don’t want to be associated with, and looking and pornography is a sand in the line for me. You draw a line in the same sand, but just choose to be on the other side, as those across from you are too fickle for your taste.

asmonet's avatar

No, actually that’s a twisted version of my point. Your other examples are equally silly. I just don’t think I’d associate someone who judged my entire worth based on what I do for 15 mins in my free time, alone, without harming anyone. Fundamental differences can be understandable if they’re something that comes between you both frequently. But chances are you’ll never see their porn, you may never hear about it.

Write a list of all your friends, statistically half of them watch porn – some may even have a problem, still gonna terminate all those friendships? Doubtful. And if you would, I can’t imagine many of them would be upset. Who needs a friends that judges them?

@JustAnother: You guys must be a real hoot to hang out with. What do you do when you get together, drink herbal tea and judge people?

Shield_of_Achilles's avatar

@JustAnother Satan himself is going to come get me when I die. But that’s just because he’s my bitch.

ragingloli's avatar

Well, if I am in the mood I might whip out my usb stick and copy some of it. But I certainly would not forage through it for child porn, because I don’t think there is a german law mandating a report and even if I did report it, they would come for me too. So why ride myself into the shit.

prude's avatar

I probably click out of it after a few secs of looking(no real hurry), I don’t know many who are into what I am into.

ratboy's avatar

Take care not to leave DNA behind.

CyanoticWasp's avatar

@ratboy, oh there’s an image.

asmonet's avatar

@nikipedia: You summed it up, he’s lovely, eh?

Gotta love the assumption that he knows what his friends do and do not do with such certainty. People are not that honest with each other, save those who are committed in their lives together – and quite often not even then.

prude's avatar

@CyanoticWasp and what a lovely image at that;)

dutchbrossis's avatar

B and C I would not click away lol.

@JustAnother Isn’t that a bit judgemental. What is so “gross” about it ?

D only if it was a hot guy
