If a candidate for office had posed nude for a magazine's centerfold, would that be enough to disqualify him/her from being elected?

No. Many elected officials have done much worse, such as being a former member of the KKK. I would think that more disqaulifying.

Not in my book, but them neither would having smoked pot.

In the way our country reacts today to things sexual and political? Yes, it would.

I don’t see why, I’ve got no problem with it. Though most of his peers might consider it as immoral or demeaning and vote him down. But then, they don’t usually consider anything they’ve done as wrong, even once they’ve been caught, so what’s that tell you.

I would hope not. There is nothing illegal about posing nude for a magazine.

In and of itself it should not automatically disqualify someone, but I’m sure for many religious people it would be, and that’s certainly an issue since your example is a republican, and that party has allied itself with religious extremists of late. It also depends if this guy is out there running on so-called “family values” and this shows him to be a hypocrite (I don’t know if that’s the case). It certainly won’t do him any good with republicans.

I’m sure Schwarzeneggar has posed nude plenty of times, and look at him!

I wouldn’t let a candidate’s photographed nudity sway my opinion of them. But for some reason, I’m sure other people would feel differently.

I assume you are referring to the US? It’s been done elsewhere.

For a male candidate, it probably won’t be a big deal, mostly the kind of thing people will joke about. It might even work in his favor because the news stories and jokes about it will make him more visible to the public. If it were a woman candidate, it would probably hurt more than help, because we tend to focus on a woman’s sex appeal a lot more than a man’s, and build that into part of their persona. Just look at the presidential election.

This is why Italians are cooler than Americans.

@Snarp I though Cars and Shoes are what made Italians cooler than Americans.

i think there are people that pose nude for a living, theres nothing wrong with that, and then there are people who run our countries offices for a living, good for them. i dont, however, think these people should be the same person. <.< >.>

Snarp's avatar

@Rude_Bear Well sure, if you go for that kind of thing.
