Sound system stuff, like hooking up subwoofer...

Asked by XOIIO (18328points) January 17th, 2010

So it started out with my friend…She had seen a backpack with speakers, and as the school “wiz kid” she asked if I could put speakers in the shoulder pads of her new backpack, so she could plug in her iPod. Easy, just simple wiring. Then I got thinking, and that’s when things get complicated. I thought “Why not put a subwoofer in your backpack too?”, except I have NO CLUE how to hook up a subwoofer with speakers. I need info on small, non power hungry subwoofers, how to hook it up with a 3.5mm audio jack, possible a cheap small amp, and any other info you guys think I could use.

You’re going to need a little amplifier, probably something with 4 channels. Bridge 2 for the subs and use the other right and left for the speakers. Although, finding an amplifier and sub woofer to acclimate a back pack and still have it practical seems like a task in it’s self. Plus, I imagine batteries dying left and right, so if you do find items to make this possible capacitors would help greatly.

a small, non-power hungry sub woofer is a contradiction in terms. Just get some good in-ear buds and the bass will be there.
