If I import contacts to LinkedIn will it spam everyone in my contacts list?

Asked by kfingerman (1012points) February 11th, 2010

I think LinkedIn is too legit to pull that old scam (import your contacts, it automatically emails them all), but I’m not sure. I’d like to do it, but don’t want to spam my colleagues. Can I do this right (i.e. get a list of who’s on the site, check everyone I want to ask for a link to, it only contacts those)?

Make sure everyone who is in your contacts list are actually people you know. I have people who show up in my contacts who were people on emails with multiple recipients. As a result, I’ve shown up in some of these people’s contact lists, and have received LinkedIn requests from people who I have no idea who they are.

right…but I wonder whether this is because they made a mistake as they imported their contacts and forgot to e.g. uncheck a box saying “email all my contacts.” There should be a way to control this and I just want to make sure there is before I do it.
