Does anybody know a good website to find quotes from famous people?

Asked by Hydrogenbond (365points) February 15th, 2010

Specifically Dr.Phil. I plan to annoy the hell out of my friends on FaceBook with a new Dr.Phil quote everyday.

[mod says] A) Please wait until the question has one or two legitimate answers before joking. B) Saying “google it” is unhelpful, and is always removed. C) Personal attacks are not permitted, and have been removed. D) Let’s try to actually answer the question, as @ratboy has done.

Whew.

@augustlan – Good rule for the “google thing”, after all I figured that this was a Q&A site!

@ratboy – Haha, that one’s great, thank you. GA

“No dog ever peed on a moving car.”
“You’re only lonely if you’re not there for you.”
“Opinions are like asses, everybody’s got one!”
“You need to marry yo’ baby mama.” (Said to David Letterman when he announced he was having a baby, lol)
“Your feelings? To hell with your feelings!”
“That dog don’t hunt.”
“Don’t make me put your head in my blender!”
“A man can’t ‘just be friends’ with another woman. Period.”
“This ain’t my first rodeo son!”

Bartlett’s for the classics (published 1919).

Bartleby.com has Bartlett’s and two other sources.

Bartlett, John. 1919. Familiar Quotations, 10th ed.
Including over 11,000 quotations, the first new edition of John Bartlett’s corpus to be published after his death in 1905 keeps most of his original work intact.

Hoyt’s New Cyclopedia of Practical Quotations. 1922.
The 21,700 quotations in this standard reference bible, organized by major category, feature original language with translations.

Respectfully Quoted: A Dictionary of Quotations. 1989.
The 2,100 entries in this eminently researched collection form the constellation of collected wisdom in American political debate.

@thriftymaid has trouble listening to rules doesn’t she! What an anarchist!

YARNLADY's avatar

@Hydrogenbond I wondered about that, but it seems to actually answer the question

@Hydrogenbond It’s always been a problem.

“Love is the hardest thing in the world to write about. So simple. You’ve got to catch it through details, like the early morning sunlight hitting the gray tin of the rain spout in front of her house. The ringing of a telephone that sounds like Beethoven’s “Pastoral.” A letter scribbled on her office stationery that you carry around in your pocket because it smells of all the lilacs in Ohio.”
