What is best time of day to exercise to burn fat?

Asked by Jeremycw1 (1370points) March 8th, 2010

What is the best time of day to exercise so you can burn the most fat? In the morning? After you eat? Before? I hope someone can clear this up for me.

The morning.

Any cardio exercise you do, like walking or running, that lasts longer than a half an hour will burn fat. The reason is that your heart rate needs to be elevated for an extended amount of time. Your body uses more calories during the day than at night, but exercising long enough matters most.

I have heard the morning is best to keep your metabolism going all day.I exercise in the evening because I need an excuse for my insomnia ;)

Thanks for answering, it looks like most people are saying morning, so now is it better to exercise before or after you eat breakfast?

before breakfast if you can do that. Personally I’m too hungry a person to exercise before breakfast, but it’s the best time of day to maximise your metabolism I’ve heard

I’ve also heard before breakfast is best. However, if you need to eat something, whether for taking meds or because your stomach says so, try half of a banana or some almonds.

^^^This

I also learned that time of day you eat doesn’t even have anything to do with metabolism and has been proven wrong.
