why do teachers give so much homework to do over spring break?

Asked by topserb96 (131points) March 10th, 2008 from iPhone

the Monday I come back from spring break I have 2 exams, 2 homework assignments due, and a class project due. This was all assigned on Friday. Why do teachers do this?

b/c real education has been lost over the years. apparently all that shit you got to do over the break is supposed to teach you work ethic and whatever the subject of the matter is, right?
my ass.
that’s not education, that’s adding another sheep to the flock.
i haven’t met a teacher with a real passion for actually teaching students in years. it’s all about deadlines and incorporating technology to help people learn “better”.
i should know, i work for an I.T. department. it’s a bunch of BS to me.
the most intelligent people seen are from era’s before these “advancements”

Because they are sadists.

Most of them never experienced a “fun” spring break due to them being socially inept.

They hold a deep seeded resentment towards those who did and take it out on you.

It sucks but there are worse things in life. Plan accordingly and everything will work out. Cancel your trip a couple of days early and put in a little extra effort.

It only gets worse in the “real world.” Trying taking a day off of work and still putting in 45 hours that week.

They are fucking with you.. Or they want you to learn something. Is three months off in the summer not enough? Wait until you get a shitty minimum wage job and don’t get any time off. You will dream about what you are going through now.

man what are you people living for besides a paycheck and “happiness” from a big screen tv?
seriously.
the “real world” everyone likes to talk about is introduced to you the day you’re born.

stop settling.

I put up with it so I have money to buy beer.

i’ll accept that answer ha [;

Who mentioned anything about a paycheck? Anything of quality usually takes work and commitment.

Why complain openly about how much homework you have when other people have real problems to deal with everyday? Education should be cherished. It’s true that some teachers don’t care, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t either.

ishotthesheriff's avatar

well the question-asker was complaining about homework.
i’m complaining about public education [; and the sheepish lives of others.

and you’re exactly right, education should be cherished. but unfortunately that’s not what it is anymore. at least where i went to high school.

spywacko's avatar

Yeah. Where you went to high school. What about college?

My high school sucked. I hated it. I loved what I did though and that was all that matters.

I just graduated college and loved it to death. Teachers pushed me, not just in my field, but others as well. I had a philosophy teacher that kicked my ass freshmen year. I worked hard for B and a “Better luck next time.” Just about every teacher I had pushed me and they were all passionate and knowledgeable about their subjects.

And yes, to a certain extent I agree that the public education system is on the decline. If you dislike it so much, get a degree in Education and change it. If you are tired of the “sheepish” lives others choose, get in a position to change it.

that’s exactly what i’m doing.
the last sentence, not the one before it.
