My mac won't start up, it just beeps!

Asked by stratman37 (8691points) May 4th, 2010

Screen doesn’t light up at all, it just beeps once every 10 secs or so. I’ve unplugged everything from the back and tried restarting, to no avail. Unplugged it and held down the power button for 5 secs, no avail. Next I’ll try reseating the memory in the bottom. (Intel-based iMac) Any suggestions?

It could be a bad power supply unit.

how would I check for that?

On second thought, how do you know that your screen hasn’t gone bad?

if it was just the screen, it wouldn’t beep, right? I’d hear the “bong” as if it were starting up like normal.

If you’re still having issues, take a look at this. It might give you some additional diagnostic insight.
