I’ve got a ten year old Nokia that still works fine. Buy the minimum you need in a quality brand, then keep it until it dies.

Well, you can buy any one that’s on the market that will work with your carrier.

Way too vague!

What are you looking for in a phone? If you tell us that waht you want then we can narrow the field from hundreds to just a handful. Do you want GPS? Smartphone? Simple “just makes calls” phone? MP3 player? Te toughness to withstand being dropped down the stairs? A QWERTY keyboard for texting? DO you want a flip, slide, or “candy bar”?

Too many variables here.

@stranger_in_a_strange_land Those old Nokias do last quite a while. Unfortunately, they discontinued the 2126i before I got my contract and (apparently) no longer support it, so I upgraded.
However, currently I am looking at a Droid Incredible as my next step, though that also depends on the pricing on the upcoming Dell Streak 5 “tablet”. I want a handheld device with the Android OS; I just don’t know if I want it in my phone or not.

@jerv I’ll be forced to buy another whenever the battery pack dies. I bought it with a spare battery; one died two years ago, the last pack is still working after ten years. They don’t make these batteries anymore, damn it.

@stranger_in_a_strange_land NiMH lasts a while. Lithium-ion…. not so much. At least it isn’t a NiCad though!
Hmmm… I wonder if you could crack the case and replace the cells in the pack or otherwise refurbish it….

@jerv I’ve still got the old battery pack, I’ll try getting it open. Nothing to lose anyway.
