For Pharmacy Technician's... Which test do you believe would be better to take: PTCB, or EXCPT exams?

Asked by tamkli3 (275points) July 27th, 2010

I’m a current student in a Pharmacy Technician class in Illinois, and I will be needing to take these two tests in order to get a certification to work at a hospital. If you are currently or were a pharmacy technician which test do you believe is more beneficial to be able to get a job in a hospital?

In my opinion, the PTCB exam. However, as long as you are getting a comprehensive education in your classes, that will be more important than the test, as far as practical knowledge. But as always, having passed the PTCB exam will likely be a requirement before – or soon after – working in a hospital. Potential employers are looking to see that you’ve hit a benchmark… not only when it comes to pharmaceutical knowledge, but also the dedication to get certified.

Best wishes!

@soarwing11… thank you very much! and I think for now I will only get PTCB certified. If anything I can also always go and take the EXCPT exam too, but later on (if I’m correct).
