What area are you talking about? Details, please. I shop all the time at the second-hand clothing store and find wonderful bargains and quality merchandise.

For a long time I was doing my grocery shopping at the dollar store, as sad as that is, but if you’re talking about different kinda cheap shopping, I suppose Wall-Mart is a good place, or so people say…I think it’s actually pretty damn pricey. This totally depends on where you even live and what you wanna shop for though.

@gailcalled i’ve shopped at thrift stores before. i’m not saying they don’t have good clothing. i’m just saying i already know/shopped in thrift stores but i have a hard time finding things i like and things that fit.

So, what area are you talking about?

What’s wrong with thrift shops? You are giving employment to people that need it. The money goes to organizations that help others. No new resources are used. the items are kept from the landfill. There are also plenty of nice consignment shops.
Of course you can go to WalMart where the items are made in China with no regard for the environment and the five top dogs collect $18M this year and own $100M worth of stock. source
But, hey, it’s “roll back time”.

umm. someone should read my last comment. i just said. i do go to thrift shops. so that suggestion wouldn’t be needed. you can shove your little attitude.

Haha “shove your little attitude”.

In additions to thrift shops, I found the best way to get inexpensive clothes that I like was to make my own. However, I have always been a crafty person, so it was easy for me.

The cheapest ready made clothes are found at the outlet stores, such as Ross and Marshall.

It also depends on the quality of clothes you are looking for. :] I never shop for clothes at Target, but every once in awhile when I walk in something pops out at me looking really cute. Then I get this little voice in my head (my mom :P) that says clothes from Target don’t hold up well after a few times through the washer and dryer.

I’d say just go to department stores at the mall (Macy’s, JCPenney, etc) and just look for sales. :] I bought a cute shirt at Macy’s this weekend for $4 when it was originally priced at $50 (and I know it wasn’t one of those fake “mark up the original to make the clearance look really good” because I had debated buying the shirt when I saw it for $50 earlier in the summer.)

You can find amazing deals at any store, you just need to have patience and wait for them. :)

Body Central also has a few $5 racks of clothes that used to be $20—$40. But it depends what style you’re going for. :]

Plato’s closet has some nice things, too. I’ve never bought there, but every once in awhile I’ll sell some of my clothes there to make a little cash.

Just shop wherever the policy includes a free oxe with each purchase over $10.

Then sell the oxen and make out like a bandit :D

Since you won’t specify your geographical area despite being asked twice, that’s the best I could come up with :)

(just make sure not to be giving them away free. That’s a losing proposition.)

There are outlet malls in many areas of the country, but since we don’t know where you are, you’ll have to do your own research.

@FutureMemory thanks haha
@YARNLADY i’ve never made my own clothes before. i don’t think i would even know how to sew something haha i could try it once but idk if i’d be able to wear it lol
@CherrySempai thanks, i’ll try some of those
@Buttonstc lmfao i’ll make sure i keep an eye out for the oxen deals :P

OK, what are “oxen”? Here in Oregon, we have Kohl’s department stores. Good prices, even better sales, coupons and scratch off’s for another discount. Get people together, spend $600 in a yr, you get regular mailouts to use whenever, on anything, on sale or not, for another 15% off. I went to an End of Season sale, had a 30% off coupon, then they had another 10% off during certain hours. I bought 47 clothing items, dresses, shoes, hats, undies, sleep and lounge ware, shorts, pants, sweaters, tops AND a greeting card, for $499.78, saved $627.50 off original prices. If you go into their store and don’t find the color or size you want, but it’s available on line, they’ll ship it to you free of charge. You can shop on line and take advantage of their sales.
Get people together for a swap. This has been on the news, women have done this for their clothes. Everyone brings stuff and then goes home with “new” things for themselves, no money involved. Something someone else’s older sibling wore, is much more attractive than a hand me down from your’s.
Learn from the internet, magazines, tv, how to build a wardrobe with a few basic pieces, a few basic colors, that can be mixed and matched to make a large number of outfits, add color and fun, and updating, with accessories. Common practice among people in business who travel a lot and look good.
Buy light, end of season clothes, on sale now, and layer with sweaters, hoodies etc., it’s in style now. Look on the internet under saving money on clothes. Good Luck!

Welcome to Fluther. We do try to be gentle with newbies:)

And I must admit she has one of the more unique screen names Ive encountered on the Internet.

And we at Fluther are quite a punny bunch as you’ll doubtless discover in time.

Walmart, check ANY stores at their Sales racks, Old Navy, Kohl’s, Target, Ross, TJMaxx, Marshall’s… all have cheap prices, plus MOST stores have coupons you can get in the mail or on your email (if you sign up). There’s nothing wrong with shopping at Goodwill either (obviously depending on the area where you live as to what the store merchandise would be ). Resale shops are great too (not too much stigma about shopping in these places nowadays, you just have to spend a bit more time looking through the racks. If you go to higher-end retail stores, such as in malls, you just have to use their coupons, or go when they have a sale, and usually all the time there are sale racks even in the more upscale department stores.
