Why are there reflections on the glass table on Dating in the Dark?

Asked by simone54 (7629points) August 24th, 2010

My roommates were watching Dating in the Dark tonight. I watched for a bit. In the first scene were everone meets in the dark room there was a glass table in the center of the room. Looking through the special camera you can see everyone. I notice that you can see reflections of the people on the glass table. How can that be without any light?

I have not seen the show. It’s possible the camera crew is using infrared light to illuminate and photograph the scene. IR acts very much like regular light and would reflect off surfaces.
You can try it yourself with an active IR night vision viewer. They have an IR source that turns on when in total darkness. Humans can’t see it but the scope can.
