How do I create an online membership form that allows members to fill out and update their own profile?

Asked by addisonk (7points) August 31st, 2010

I need a CRM-like database that is enabled online. Here’s what I would like to do:

Create an online form that would allow members to enter their profile information, upload a photo, and attach a file. Later, they can get on to update their profile without having to fill out the whole form again (like google docs forms would).

Filemaker seems too complicated, bento looks cool but isn’t available online, and google docs doesn’t allow them to update their responses.

What would allow me to set this up?

Thanks for your help!

Something on this list might help you. For my purposes, I created a Yahoo Group for members to sign up, which then granted them access to the full site by means of a URL.

@YARNLADY probably has the right idea. It’s no big deal to create an online form. THe problem is creating the back end that does something with its input. That gets into a ton of complexity on what resources the server you are going to host it on provides you and how users are to authenticate before making changes to their content. A Yahoo! Group of a Ning Group would be much easier to set up. All the heavy lifting on the back end has already been done for you.

Of course, as a Yahoo! Development Partner Yahoo! Stores, I may be prejudiced about which to use. But check through the features of both and decide which fits your needs best.
