Who will McCain pick as a running mate? Do you think he will want someont more conservative or will he be more concerned about geographic location?

Asked by trainerboy (1307points) March 26th, 2008

Woudl he pick Giuliani to perhaps go after New York, or pick a Southern Conservative to shore up the South and get some support form conservatives who don’t feel passionate about him?

I think he’ll go with South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford.

Inkling is running a futures market asking the same question. The current leader is Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty, following by Charlie Crist, Condaleeza Rice, and Mike Huckabee.

I would be surprised if he chose anybody from teh Bush Administration. I think he is going to want to distance himself from Bush, without seeming like he is running against Bush. It will be an interesting little dance he will get to do but I would be very surprised if he picked Condoleeza Rice.

I think the reason Condi’s name is being thrown around is because Obama is the presumptive Democratic nominee and the Republicans think they can take the wind out of his sails by matching him up with an African American. This is shallow lens through which the Republican machine thinks about race America. That’s why they sent Alan Keyes to run against Obama in the 2004 Illinois Senate race after Jack Ryan dropped out.

I agree. I believe there are people who agree with Obama but would not vote for him because he is black, although they would n’t say it publicly, as well as those who may not agree with Hillary but vote for her because she is a woman.
We have a ways to go before we get past a lot of things.
I wouldn’t vote for either because I don’t agree with them.

I think it would be cool if he picked Lieberman since they’ve both taken heat from their respective parties when they’ve disagreed. I think that would be a nice, “in your face,” moment to both political machines.

@ trainerboy Some ppl will vote for obama bc he’s black without knowing where he stands on the issues.
