How do I get my money back from an accidental Amazon Prime application?

Asked by Elumas (3170points) September 10th, 2010

I ordered a book from Amazon about a month ago. There was an option for a free trial of Amazon Prime, I clicked it to check it out but decided against it. My understanding was that I was not signed up for it. However a $79.00 membership fee, charged to the debit card I have connected to that account tells me otherwise. I don’t want to be part of Amazon Prime and I want to get my $79 back for something I didn’t purchase. Can I do this?

Go to your account, then “contact us”, enter your phone number, they will call you immediately, explain situation, get credit (as long as you didn’t use the actual “Prime” service).
See ya…..Gary/wtf

Has anyone tried amazon prime and not been charged for the first month afterwards? :p

I bet they secretely want people to phone them up because noone ever does.

As for the answer, phoning them works fine. It is what I did and I got my money back. They will probably tell you to go to your account and unsubscribe and will want to confirm stuff about your account.

@Ame_Evil I have used the free month and not been charged afterwards. You just need to make sure it’s set to not subscribe automatically at the end of the trial period. In fact, I was offered a second trial a few months after the first one, and again had no problems with unwanted subscriptions. If you do have a problem, it’s just a matter of contacting them, they’re usually very helpful.
