Why won't my filters apply in Final Cut Express?

Asked by metadog (378points) September 29th, 2010

Hi! I have been asked to lighten a short video clip downloaded as a MOV file from YouTube. I have it in Final Cut Express and drag over the “Color Corrector” video filter. When I make changes in the video filter settings, I don’t see anything happen in the viewer. Is the filter working? Am I missing a step or two? I’m new at this if you can’t tell. Thanks!

First I don’t think this is a “social” question, but I won’t bother with that.

Can you try editing a video that you captured yourself rather then downloaded? I know you can’t directly download videos from youtube so you probably used a 3rd party software to rip the video. The MOV file you got is probably secured to prevent editing. But the only way to really find out is to test with a different video and see if your software behaves the same way.
