Why aren't my speakers working?

Asked by sliceswiththings (11723points) October 5th, 2010

I have Insignia speakers plugged into a Mac Mini. The computer simply isn’t recognizing them, there are no output devices listed in my sound settings. I’m positive everything is connected correctly.

Are they not compatible with a Mac?

First things first, do other speakers work?

Unless they’re USB speakers, they probably won’t show up in the audio settings. Just set the computers output port as the audio output device and you should be good.

And as @bob_ said, make sure the speakers are fully functioning in the first place.

We have no other speakers to test, and these speakers work on another computer.

@sliceswiththings Did your previous speakers (assuming you had them) work? Are they USB or regular speakers?
