Question
What are you listening right now?
I’m listening to vampire weekend, what’s in your ipod, or car stereo?
Answers
I’m shuffling my iTunes library right now, so it’s very mixed and just went from “Here comes your man” by Pixies to “Americanos” by Holly Johnson…..who know’s what’s next!
Itunes on random, Just listened to a song by Plastic Tree. Now it’s, Freaky Thangs by Ludacris.
Weird.
Now, I got some Jay-Z Bumpin’
I’m making myself listen to iTunes on shuffle until I hear one specific song:
“You’re the voice” by John Farhnam
Out of boredom I guess
I’ve been doing this for almost two weeks and it hasn’t come up once.
Now, it’s just to see if it ever will.
Also, I get to hear a lot of stuff I don’t really listen to that much, or haven’t listened to.
I’m listening to a samba/bossa nova station on Pandora. Right now, it’s
Y Danca Da Solidao – Marisa Monte
“hang me up to dry” by the cold war kids, but I was just listening to “cashmir pulaski day” by sulfjan stevens! Both songs are great!
My friend teaches first grade and always describes her occupation to others as “hot for teacher,” she’s pretty smokin’ too.
@peedub you cant use the rickroll link two times in a row. Im starting to remember the URLs for them.
Im investing some big money on Ratatat in iTunes. Those songs were all awesome, especially the last one.
My husband is tapping on his chair with his fingers and playing Norah Jones on his
iMac. Oh now he’s turning on Jon Stewart…
I’m listening to Gnarls Barkley’s latest album, The Odd Couple! It is simply amazing! If you haven’t listened to it yet and liked his first album, St. Elsewhere, I’d suggest you check it out ASAP. Heck, even if you’ve never even heard of Gnarls Barkley, I’d still urge you to find and buy BOTH if his albums! ...and then listen to then of course ; )
I’m always slow to embrace new music. I’m one of those people who will leave the same CD in the car for a month, or until my wife says she can’t find it. But. I’m going to try hard and listen to a few suggestions here.
probably boring and tacky but…...living on a prayer (since I’ve just sat the last exam of the year and I’m “halfway there” on my course – whoo hoo)
peedub, I hope that wasnt another rickroll. Didn’t get me bc its not formatted for the iPhone yet. I will never ever click a link from you again =P
You’re having a good day. School will be out and you’re gonna break 1000. What are your going to do Miss Wildflower [microphone in your face]?
well, I’m gonna have some quiet reflection (in a glass of something) and think about how lurved I am…..and not forgetting the little people….blah….blah….blah [swoosh hair to the side]
Ahhh so you tried the muppet rickroll… I’ve already had that one. And über, what was that dude smoking?
@Eambos from the looks of it, id say he had acid. You can see the couch melting at around 2min plus talking fish and plenty of fractals.
Any of you have a “commuter mix” that you’ve cooked up? I have one that I spent weeks tweaking to get just right, and listen to it each morning as I make my way on the bus.
@birdlegleft i usually make a playlist and listen the hell out of it. Where ever i go im listening to it and i will do this for weeks. Then ill make a new one and not listen to any of the songs on the old playlist for months.lol the cycle continues.
For me it’s all about podcasts, as far as commuter mixes go. Tim Sweeny’s Beats in Space is by far the best I’ve heard, but I’m into some pretty obnoxious electro stuff.
I’m going to piggyback another question into the fold: do people still listen to albums? Or is that a forgotten craft?
Vinyl? Hell YES!
or do you mean albums in their entirity? I do both. I still love the idea of a cohesive album but also am a fan the the 12” single and the remix.
Uber, you have awesome taste in music! Everything you’ve suggested so far i have loved.
And I love Vinyl too! I have the record player in my room with a stack of 120+ albums in some crates right next to it.
Safe? You can go through iTunes and type in Beats in Space. It’s free, too, and this amazing DJ provides a tracklist, who does this?
I didn’t actually mean vinyl (although I have my share of 180 gram goodness). I meant the form. A collection of songs meant to be listened to in one sitting. End to end.
I still like the whole album idea.
I’ve never purchased just a song from iTunes, I only buy full albums.
Usually I listen to the complete album before I listen to the songs individually. An entire album can send a different message and feeling than just one song on its own.
@eambos, our turntable is now public property. Meaning my children are able to use it. You can imagine the condition it’s in.
I think albums are gteat too. Hearing a song in context is pretty nice. I also have a shit load of random downloads. Have to fill out those mixes with something.
i dont do cds, albums, or whatever. I pirate everything. I know tis bad but i go to as many concerts as i can so i support my muzik that way.
I think at least half my iTunes library was acquired as late night impulse purchases…....I actually can’t remember the last physical record I bought….
Im not big on the CDs anymore. It seems itunes usually has the cheaper price for an album than any store i can think of. Ive spent almost $250 on itunes!
It’s the end all. Tim Sweeny is affiliated with DFA, if that means anything to you.
I just got my hands on some Datarock, I’m diggin’ it.
The grey album was made by Danger Mouse who is in Gnarls Barkley with Cee-Lo Green. The album actually caused a lot of controversy
“The album, which Danger Mouse released in limited quantities to a few outlets, created a massive amount of controversy when EMI, copyright holder of The Beatles, ordered Danger Mouse and retailers carrying the album to cease distribution. The amount of attention The Grey Album received caused EMI to act. Danger Mouse never asked permission to use The Beatles’ material, and intended to produce a limited production run of 3,000 copies.”
You should start collecting money from some of these artists. Ive spent at least $20 on the stuff that you’ve posted in the last day or two.
Since ‘now’ is a kinds relative term…..this could go on for some time….right now I’ve got Eagles playing (anyone else noticed they seem to have dropped the ‘The’?)
This question is awesome! I’ve gotten so many new bands to add to my iPod. I’m listening to some Beatles “Abby Road” album right now.
Mmmmm, I’ve got some Z Trip. Not on vinyl though.
This morning is bus mix. “Killing the Blues” followed by “Waiting for Superman.”
I saw him live at Irving Plaza in Manhatten. Its a really small venue, but many other people, such as public enemy(who I saw), have performed there.
I saw Public Enemy touring for “Fear of a Black Planet.” Totally amazing show despite a shaky stage which caused problems for Terminator X. Chuck D still has my favorite rap voice, and Flava Fav is the quintesential hype man.
“Midnite Vultures” which was missing in action for the last two years in the trunk of the car, then “Our Beloved Revoltionary Sweetheart.”
“Hickory Dickory Dock” and other classics such as “Im a Little Teapot” and “Hot Crossed Buns.”
But really, I’m just enjoying the silence.
Foo Fighters rock!!
But I’m in Coulton mode…....Ikea playing now. Gotta love songs about a handfull of norsemen :)
