Was I the only one wincing through Casey's rendition of Nature Boy last night ?

Im not sure how many of you are familiar with the original version by Nat King Cole but it’s up on YouTube as is Casey’s version.

I’m not referring to his interpretation of it as it would not have served him well to do a karaoke version of Nat’s. I’m referring to the sour notes he was hitting as he was sliding in and out in his phraseology. Ouch. I found it painful to listen to.

But none of the judges said anything about it. Not even Randy with his usual “well it was a little pitchy, dude.”

Now I don’t have perfect pitch but I have damn good relative pitch. I’m a veteran of numerous years in school band, chorus, choir, etc. and taught myself to play guitar and hear chord changes by ear so it’s not as if I’m a total music dummy.

Is my hearing starting to go out of whack ? Or is it just the extreme precision of Nat’s singing which would be difficult for anybody to match. I mean he hits each and every note spot on perfectly.

Casey was just sliding around all over the place and hitting sour notes here and there.

Please take the time to listen to Nat singing it before you answer. You’ll see what I mean instead of just assuming I’m being excessively picky or cruel. I actually like Casey.

All of the judges being so ecstatic about it has me puzzled.

I hate to say it but I miss Simon. He just called it like he heard it.

So, my fellow jellies, give me your honest opinion of whether my perceptions are totally out of whack or not. Is Casey singing this song something YOU would pay money for ?
