Are AS SEEN ON TV ads trying to portray a bygone era?

It seems like the products that are for sale by phone, and end up on the as seen on tv section of your local discount store, tend to depict a very similar era.

I can’t quite put my finger on it, but I am sure you can help.

I know they didn’t film them all 25 years ago and are just letting them out one at a time! Is it because it is the same advertising agency using the same old equipment?

Some characteristics of the era are: Eighties clothes and hair styles, grainy porn like film quality, absolutely no other products in the background, very outmoded decorations in the house they are being shown in.

This is clearly designed to prey on the elderly.
