Am I a vegetarian now?

Something just hit me, I think I could possibly be a vegetarian now.

For the last two weeks, I have only consumed fruit, vegetables, some dairy products, and maybe a touch of fish.

Assuming I keep this routine, would I now be considered a vegetarian by some? even with the occasional tuna on my salad?

Does there have to be some kind of decision for it to count so to speak? or can being a vegetarian just creep up on you like that?

Most vegetarians eat no meat, fish or fowl, but do eat eggs and dairy.

Most vegans eat no meat, fish or fowl and also consume no eggs, dairy and may possibly not eat refined sugar (due to the bone char used to process it) or honey (because it is an animal product).

There are some people who claim to be vegetarians, that do eat fish, but that tends to complicate matters for other people who are trying to figure it out. It’s better to use the term pescatarian for those folks (just for the ease of having the cooks cook for you).

You don’t have to have a vegetarian agenda, or sign any documents to actually be a vegetarian. It might just be a matter of what you are actually eating. But if you don’t identify as a vegetarian, per se, then it probably wouldn’t bother you if you actually did end up getting served a piece of meat or chicken or fish, but a person like me, who identifies as a vegetarian would be going against their beliefs and it would cause a lot of distress.

So for now, it just looks like you’re a fellow who has cut down on his meat consumption. Good deal : )

You could just eat what you like and not label yourself. Have you thought of that?

not trying to be snarky at all, I just hate labels. :)

I think you are a vegetarian. But I was a vegan for two weeks according to me, and other people disagree with the idea that one can be a vegan for such a such a short period of time.

I’m not opposed to eating meat, in fact a grilled t-bone sounds quite nice around about now. But I’m not going to eat one.

I was mostly just curious about technicality, I can’t say I care for labels much either. I think the word “pescatarian” deserves a shout out, learned something new there.

So yea, I plan to keep eating this way, but only for training reasons. I must say the fish thing always confused me.

A vegetarian friend of mind came up with a simple way to explain her diet to well-meaning people who thought “fish doesn’t count”. She just says, “I don’t eat anything that had a face”.

@thorninmud I have used that phrase too. In some cases it has pissed people off, as though you are trying to insult them for what they eat. Although I never meant it that way at all.

I tend to get looks of serious concern or looks of disgust when people find out that I am a vegetarian. Not sure why, though. I don’t try to convert people, nor do I ever try to stop them from eating what they want. I regularly dine in normal restaurants where meat is served and I never throw red paint on people. : (

You could be a partial vegetarian. All I can say is keep up those good eating habits. If you stick to them you will reap the benefits.

I don’t really believe in partial vegetarianism or half vegetarianism. To me, vegetarianism implies that you don’t consume any meat. If you eat fish occasionally, I don’t think you adhere to a strict vegetarian diet so I wouldn’t consider you a vegetarian. You just tend to not eat meat. You could be on your way to being a vegetarian, if you so wish to be though.
Not implying that there’s anything right or wrong with how you eat, it’s just that the terms indicate a certain diet.
My friend was a vegetarian. She eats fish now, and she doesn’t consider herself a vegetarian anymore, despite the fact that fish is the only meat she eats. I’m a vegetarian and I don’t eat any meat at all, but I do still consume dairy and sometimes eggs.
